C230 Sport Coupe

So, we are saying that the 1.8 03' C230 is actually the same motor as the 02' 2.3? Controled by software?

Thats right, same motor in C 180, C 200 and C 230, just different software versions.

No. The two engines are very different. The 2002 2.3 liter M111 engine is a cast iron block whle the new M271 1.8 liter is aluminum. The new engine has balance shafts to make it smoother, and it has variable valve valve timing on the exhaust side as well as the intake. I doubt there are any common parts between the two engines.

Is the M271 1.8L the engine used in the 2003 C230K?

I think Lucas meant that on the '03 C180, C200 and C230 the engines are the same but have different programming to produce different power outputs. The slower cars are not available in North America so it won't help C230 owners as much.
