Computer upgrade on SL65 question...
I understand that Renntech has a computer upgrade for the motor and trans, but the price that the shop wants to charge is ridiculous.
What is the best price I should be paying to have this done?

I used RENNtech for my 600 and am quite satisfied, but you might want to check out this thread:

RENNtech
Not including labor which should be less than an hour or easy to remove your own computers. The price is $5800 for 2005 to 2006 SL65's and $6800 for 2007 to 2009 cars. 670 HP, 840 tq.

We have a great ECU/TCU upgrade for your 65 that you will love. The performance is great! The reliability is outstanding, our client care, the best... and we have a two year warranty on the tuning.... it will cost you less than the big boys.
Check our MB/AMG page and our testimonials:

Thanks for the posts guys. That Kleenex half off deal sounds pretty damn good compared to Renntechs ridiculously overinflated prices.
I haven't recieved my car yet as it's being shipped to Phoenix from Chicago, so hopefully it gets here before the deal is gone.
I've heard that the stock SL65 wheels weigh as much as boat anchors, not sure how much each wheel actually weighs, but I'm thinking a very lightweight wheel with a little more width on it would significantly improve 1/4 mile times and braking.

I'd go with kleemann Bro. They offer nearly same performace figures for nearly 50% off......just can't beat that. They are as reputable as Renntech and Cory is definitely a stand up guy. I have dealt personally with them. ![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
In terms of weight on the wheels, definitely agree. Remove nearly 10 pounds of rotational mass in each corner you would shave at least 3/10's or more in the quarter. Look up the posts, various discussions on this item. It's about putting the power to the ground in these torque monsters.

And my post was meant to be a little sarcastic about the wheels as I've been drag racing since the early 90's so I know the ins & outs of it.
I shaved 11lbs per wheel off my Viper which shaved .15 to .20 off my 1/4 miles times at the track. A good drag racer knows that less rotating mass is your friend.

The Viper is more than a thousand pounds lighter than an SL65, so the benefit of the lighter weight wheels on the SL65 won't be as significant.
Best of luck with the upgrades.

I know the comment might sound out of place, but if you decide to change the wheels, I have an 07 sl65 that has the original two piece AMG wheels but have been chromed. I want the original look and do not like chrome, so I am looking for a set of wheels in excellent condition to buy. I understand the weight issue, but I do not care much about the effect it has on the car.

I have to change now the thread to "I have an entire set of wheels for sale" since I bought a set of brand new (35 miles on it) 2009 SL63 pullouts in Fort Lauderdale on Friday. I got them installed on Saturday but have not taken pictures yet. If someone is interested in the chrome wheels, please make an offer. I am thinking about setting them up for sale on ebay otherwise.
