Cars and boats!
I just had my DME (ECU) upgraded from RENNtech and let me tell you....it was well worth the money spent. I feel the throttle a lot more responsive, the car reving a bit faster, shift points a bit higher, and staying in the powerband longer. Doing the ECU upgrade really woke up my ML55s restricted motor. I highly recommend this...you wont regret it... I am taking my cousins C32 to do the same!!!

I haven't modified my ECU.
But it's nice to know that there are people on this forum that like to point fingers and offer information to Government officals.
I think it's time to re-think the value of sharing information.
Tim
huh, what? Someone help a brotha from NJ out, what is all this gov. official, turning in shiet? Aren't there special provisions for modified vehicals?

I have to corect you a little , We can read the ECU as an open
book, when the mapping is at R/D level with an unknown ECU there is only 1 way to go and that is to try and pull 1 mask after the other, sooner or later the ignition MAP will be found, fuel MAP, torque MAP, V-MAX, ect.ect.
When R/D is done, we will know exactly what we are programing and why we do it.

Only problem, is that the car manufactors " restack " the files on the chip, this is why the ECU have different software versions, so
if we find the V-max on p. 20 in 1 version at can be on p. 99 in the next we do and on p. 30 in the next ect.ect. so to find many cars with the same software version is rare.

When the files are modified, the " CHECK SUM " will change and has to be calculated back within a certan tolerance, if the check sum is out of tolerance, the car can't start.

The top of the line emolators, will automatically calculate the check sum.

I fully understand this. I have a hot air station, E-prom reader/writer and soldering station. I have been messing with chips for a while now. There is a company that has cracked the ME controller codes for the BMW cars, but none of them know anything about Mercedes.

I think the only people that know Mercedes chips are AMG and Mercedes Corp.

There are reasons for this....The tuner market is JUST NOW starting to take off for Mercedes. 5 years ago people would laugh in your face if you told them you were starting a business performing high performance work on Mercedes. Times are now changing. There are people out there who see the potential of cracking the Mercedes source code in the ECU and being able to manipulate it for performance gains.

This will take time because of the 1,000's of maps in the ECU's and because, as you said, the maps are not in the same place. Mercedes actually changes the addresses of the maps on a regular basis.

Now, back to the source of this....Renntech probably sends the code to an engineer at AMG who has an "open book" to the codes. This way the source stays protected and Renntech gets what they want.

BTW.....This is just an opinion.

Benzmac.

Lots of people know how to program a MB ECU, in basic it's excatly the same as any other car brand with a Bosch / siemens
ECU.
If you can program a BMW, you can program a MB as well. The MB files seems always to be much more difficult to work with than other cars, so most give up.
AMG are not working with Renntech on this and they do for sure not e-mail data any where, all data of an AMG car can be found in the " Vordefinerte string codes ". Renntech are 99 % sure e-mailing their files to MKB or a related chip tuner in Germany.

Renntech don't send codes, they send the HEX file, string codes
and chip re-programing are two different things.

5 years ago the MB tuning market was huge, maybe not in the US
but Europe and Asia, so there is nothing new under the sun.

All the chip gear you have is OK, you cant use it for anything untill
you have the Emolator with the software and check sum calculation.

No problem, you can buy all the gear for it you want, search the net and several companies like EVC in Germany, Giovanni in Italy
ect. ect. invest 10-15.000,00 $ in gear and then start playing.

Good luck

The guys at TW Motorsports in Campbell, CA shipped my ECU out for reprogramming. The car has more mid-range punch and higher shift points. It "feels" like 30HP and G-Tech says my 0-60 times dropped over a tenth, 2 if the motor is cool. the 155MPH speed limit is gone too. This was confirmed on highway 280 near Woodside one night.

Thanks

Tim, we actually had Powerchips at our shop the other day, tuning a M5 with us. They seem to be the real deal. They are going to make custom software for my car, and can do the same for you when you come down for your checkup. Let's talk offline about this later.
