It's an interesting solution, thinking outside the box (pardon the pun). The only way to tell if it's helping is to measure IAT (intake air temps). Don't know what car you have but for a 1996 or newer you can use an OBD2 scanner or you can put a temp probe in the intake before the throttle plate and measure it there as you drive.

i have a CLK320, how do i measure the temp difference. Now i jsut use my hand touching the side wall and is much hoter than the airbox.

In the end it doesn't matter how hot the box gets, it's how hot is the air making it to the engine. An OBD2 scanner will measure the airflow and intake air temps (IAT) at the MAF sensor. The PC software and cable I use is from OBD-2.com, it's about $122 for a single type of vehicle (all three known types are $162). You plug it from your laptop to the connecter under the steering wheel and slightly to the left. Then you can measure all sorts of stuff. I know much testing you see here is done on a dyno but if you can measure airflow and IAT you can design a pretty nice intake kit or verify the mod you made works before spending a lot of money on dyno time. Also it's good for checking codes like serious ones that cause the Check Engine Light (CEL) to go on or less serious ones that you can catch before they become serious. Personally I hate bringing a car to a dealer with a CEL on and I don't know in advance what's going on, specially when the warranty is up and I have to pay for it.

thanx, i think i get your point. Does this mean by lowering in the airbox temp won't increase any performance ? Becasue if the airbox is hot the MAF will suck more air in, in different temp the MAF will adjust the air flow speed and how much air to suck in. So what i do here by trying to lower the temp on airbox the MAF and adjust itself, so i don't get any gain right ?

actually, while aluminum absorbs heat very readily, it doesn't radiate it as well. so the air intake temp may not have changed, or may have gotten hotter. the only way to check is the OBD2 scanner.
