Powerchip on W211 E55

I just had a Powerchip Gold 98 retune of the ECU on my E55. The only other mod is a set of BMC air filters.
I was given before and after dyno graphs showing a 15kw rear wheel power gain on the car throughout the rev range.
To double check I ran a number of base line runs on my G-tech the night before.
These runs netted 380,385 and 382rwhp. Tonight in similar conditions, 1.5 degrees warmer, same relative humidity (I have a relative air density gauge used for tuning my 2 stroke GP bike where atmospheric conditions are critical to tuning.) the car netted 401, 406 and 400 rwhp.

I was initially fairly sceptical about performance gains from the Powerchip upgrade, but have to say that I am now convinced. For the money they also removed the speed limiter increased the rev limit and re-tuned the electronic throttle to give more immediate response. All this was done for 1/3 of the cost of the Renntech ECU with a real 20rwhp gain.

Do you feel that the Powerchip functions better than the Unichip you had on your previous E55?

Nope, same performance, but the Powerchip also removes the 250kmh speed limiter, to offset that the Unichip was also cheaper.

What did they move the Rev Limiter to? And was the increase in HP seen at the same RPM or in the new expanded RPM range?

Stephens...
I have an E500 with the Powerchip as well, but the guys here in the US (Santa Monica, CA office) say that they have not yet figured out how to remove the top speed limiter. I saw that yours was removed and was wondering who did the Powerchip install on your car? I would like to follow-up with them to see if this same patch could be used to remove the top end on my E500.
Thanks,

EPower,

Let me know what you find out on the E500.

BTW, I just sent you a PM with some other questions.

Thanks Mark

The site is www.powerchipgroup.com and it will void some of the warranty.

Great gains, congratulations!

I'm also curious to know your new speed limit, was it completely removed or raised to 187??

Awesome deal, that's like 50 bucks a horse. Do you plan on bringing her to a Dyno machine? if so, post how close the G-Tech was to it. I purchased the "Competition G-Tech" last week, but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Nice job with Powerchip, and thank for sharing.

I'm getting my powerchip installed as we speak. Should be ready in about 5 minutes. Will see how long it takes for the computer to adjust.

WOW. , I thought it would take the computer a while to adjust, but no, it's instant.

The throttle response is much more crisp. I haven't had a chance to take it up to speed yet because of rush hour traffic.

So far so good.

What percent would you say is the improvement over stock? How much? Was the limiter removed? How easy is it to install?

Thanks!

James, here is what the website says:

"In standard form, the Mercedes-Benz_CLK 55 AMG 5.5 produces 342_hp, however the addition of a Powerchip Gold 93 will increase the power to 376_hp. In addition to the extra power, the torque is also increased. The CLK 55 AMG 5.5 produces 376_lb.-ft standard, and this is increased to 413_lb.-ft. This means more pulling power especially up hills."

I was very skeptical of their claim of 34 hp/37 lb-ft increase.

I drove to their Santa Monica location and picked up the car an hour later. Let me tell you, what a difference.

1. It is much more responsive and has waaaay more power throughout the entire rev range in every gear. 10% increase if not more.

2. $990 +tax

3. Rev Limiter = Hasta la ByBy...

4. Should be easy because you can just send it in.

However, you have to use 93 octane.
76 RACING GAS STATION LOCATER
11 gal of 91oct
+ 4 gal of 100oct
= 93.4oct

$40.- vs $30.- per tank. "Gulp"

My performance mods are: (in order of implementation)
1. K&N filter
2. Adaptive ingnition set to 93 octane
3. Eisenmann Race Exhaust
4. PowerChip
5. Black Grill [Just Kidding]

James, you are more than welcome to drive my car since you drove it before the mods. Name the place & time.

Hopefully I can dyno the car at Evosport on Tuesday & drag it in Palmdale on Wednesday night. Do you wanna come?

Thumbs up

Chris

That's great! A 34hp increase and also removes your restriction! But what's with the 93 octane gas? So does that mean that you ALWAYS have to use 93 everyday you drive that car??

As far as driving your car i'll let you know. My schedule is pretty busy right now. Actually how about this Thursday around 10-11am. Will that work for you? We need an open space what location would you suggest? Can't do tuesday or wednesday as i have to work. But i'm free this thursday of friday. Let me know.

I wonder what the 91 octane program would get. I don't have time to run around finding 100 octane gas.

You guy could always move to Michigan, I have seen pumps with 93 to 94 octane in many gas stations. Good old CA has all these emmission control regulations and others, it would be hard to find them.

Not really. 76 has a station finder for racing fuels. And 76 gas station are pretty much everywhere.

You are right, how could I forget that Big Orange Ball???? They're all over! Well, I guess I used to go to Shell and Mobil only. There isn't any 76 here in IN now. BTW, did you mean with the chip upgrade, you'd need the higher octone juice???

Yes according to the mfg. Otherwise if you run less than the minimum requirement you'll be

As long as it's a minimum 93 or more don't see any problem but check with the mfg.

So if I put in the chip and only found 92 juice, then put a bottle of Octane 104 in, problem solved??? Or it just would accept pure 93 jucie?

HHHmmm?? Not really sure about that. You may want to call the mfg and ask them. Haven't tried the product so can't really say much about it.
