E55 Exhaust Modification Advice
Below is a pic (thanks Dr Chill) of the E55 factory crossover. This is not on the S,CL and SL55 and appears to be the only real difference in the W211 exhaust system.
My question is what potential issues its removal could have?
I am not sure whether to remove it entirely along with the intermediate muffler, or to remove the crossover pipe and replace the intermediate muffler with a properly designed crossover pipe like that on the M5.

Below is a diagram of the SL55 etc exhaust system (it's actually an AMG E500 exhaust system, but aside from diameter there is no difference to the best of my knowledge).
A properly designed crossover pipe designed like a collector would be great eg. merging to the two 2.75" pipes to a single 4" pipe and back to two 2.75" pipes.
I am not an expert on exhaust design, but the standard crossover pipe looks like a flow killing, turbulance inducing nightmare. I would like some more knowledgable opinions on the matter.
