Chip tuning and long term reliability

Hi there. I am completely convinced that my question, below, has been asked and answered many times on this forum. But despite many search term attempts I could not find it. So I apologize in advance for what is likely a repeated question. Could I trouble someone to point me to the appropriate thread?

I am considering a chip tune for my 2014 S550 4matic M278. My concern is the engine and driveline components. Are the engine internals, the transmission, and the rest of the driveline up to the added power? What is the risk of hitting the gas one day and killing the transmission, breaking a connecting rod, or frying a piston (for example)?

I have always assumed that the S63 has more robust internal engine and driveline components than the S550. If this is true, aren't they needed for long term reliability?

Thanks!

Most of the chip tunes I’ve seen don’t really increase the hp/tq to a level that would worry me. As long as the engine and driveline are in decent condition I don’t think you’d have a problem. That said, how you drive it has more effect. Are you bouncing it off the limiter like those goof ball fast and furious types on YouTube?

Do you warm up and cool down the car before and after having fun? Change the oil regularly? These are all things that go hand in hand in keeping the car on the road and out of a shop.

Excellent. Thank you - that all sounds very reasonable. Also, if I move forward, I'll go with someone highly reputable.

Thanks once again and all the best for the holidays.

Like Joe said, unless you're putting in some crazy amounts of hp, like in the 200-300WHP range, the driveline is hardly affected. But it also depends on how you drive, a stock car driven like a NASCAR everyday is gonna have way more problems than a tuned car that's driven relatively normally with pulls here and there.

i used racechip, easy installation, i love the fact that you can adjust how much powere you want , get it with bluetooth, i wish i had. as far as driveability, it will put a huge smile on your face, the torque gain is very noticible, i put it on economy on highway driving and 7 for city, i have seen a drop in gas milage but i don't worry about it anyway, we pay for premium gas anyway, but i would recommend it, and i wouldn't go on the record about my next comment but i would assume that a lot of componants in our s550's are very similar if not the same in the s63. these cars are beast's. pm me if you get the race chip and will guide you thru installation.
