I am here to console the woman should they need something else to do with their free time!

I think the real test for the TOW will be during the week. Let's see if the ****** can handle no TOW for a week.

Personally, I don't mind. I don't post in the TOW as much anymore (which is why I still have a rather high count despite the deletion of the TOW).

I don't think they will bring TOW back and I think they should deleted it and I hate to say it. The site is running smooth and fast. I would be surprise if they did bring TOW back! Well see, you can always start a new one

Man, the site is fast!

The only thing I'll miss about the TOW is how it was like a chatroom of sorts (I didn't really like the useless posting going on, and the ****** that have done it know my position on the matter).

You admins better come up with an alternative for us.

Meantime, I'm told the first step in any 12-step process is to capitulate and admit one has a problem. Those of you who have lost several hundred or thousands in your post counts need to wake up to your problem, as many already have noted here.

There will be a step two class forming next week. Stay tuned, LOL!
Does Ricky look like this?

I only have 1 request, and that's to let us use profanuty like on Benzworld. Come on! I can't express my weak mind without the filthy words!

I'm guessing it's running on MySQL? Besides basic database design and upkeep, I really don't know much of anything about MySQL. MS SQL however I do have quite a bit of knowledge about, but not really a guru.

I would guess the first things I would try would be to modify some of the settings of the forum. Is there a way to remove the TOW from search querying and results? Can you run some kind of profiler to see what queries are taking too long, so that you can set up some additional indexes or hinting? (Note, try the explain command). Like I mentioned before, I would really look in to segmentation of the thread, and lock the older threads. It would take some continuous maintenance, but do this after x number of posts in the thread. Try to get Jelsoft involved for some tips.

See this blog on MySQL and PHP optimization tips:
http://www.whenpenguinsattack.com/category/mysql/

With SQL 2005 and the performance dashboard, it is quite easy to get a lot of basic stats, including long running queuers, and run them through the profiler. There also is a ton of available software to help in this area as well.

Here's a suggestion/question - Why not just lock the TOW thread and let it go at that?

We talked about that but that would still allow read access. We wanted to see what a pure environment would be like simply for testing and experimentation.

Trust us, as much as any individual might want the thread gone, we'd never totally delete it out of existence. MBWorld is a community which thrives on making friendships and a lot of us view each other almost as family. I know anyone who is thick enough to not recognize this fact is certainly not part of the staff.
