CLK 500 low beam is out

Hi-

I have a 2005 CLK 500 and the low beam passenger light is out. I was told it was the ballast, and so I bought a new one on ebay. The new light worked for about 5 days and then burnt out again. I am wondering if the new ballast I bought was bad, or if it could be something else. Is there a way to test whether or not it is the ballast? How would I know if it is the ignitor? It seems that the dealer is quick to say it is the ballast, but I am wondering if it could be something else. I read something about the peanut light being connected to the ballast. Please advise if you have any suggestions.

Thanks
