R-Class Sighting...I am very impressed!

This would be my second time seeing one on the road but this is the first time that it really caught my eye! It was silver with 19 or 20" chrome rims, tinted windows and appeared to be lowered a bit. I know it sounds a little ghetto-fab but it was beautiful!

I saw it coming up from behind me going Northbound on the 110 just as you approach Downtown LA. From the front (approaching me from the rear) I thought it was a CLS. Then as it passed me I was surprised it was not. I kept trying to catch up but with traffic it was really difficult.

I think it was love at first sight because now I am really really interested in these bad boys!

MBZ technology, safety, comfort, and room for 6 adults? Yumm, yumm. And folks who now have them and are driving them say that they ride very well, are very spacious, and that they can't even believe what a nice car they are.... So it's like MBZ's version of a minivan - why not?
Can hardly wait to get my hands on one for an extended test drive...

I really like the ones I've seen, too. I took the wife to the $tealership to have a look at them, thinking we could ditch this damn pickup and get another benz to go with the ML. Well, simply put, she didn't like it. I guess she's spoiled by the 163's interior space. She felt the R had too little head room in comparison. Funny to hear that from my 5'3" wife! She did like the 164 they had in the showroom, maybe I'll get her one of those. Then get myself the R! Hmm, now I'm thinking!

Paul I think you should step up to the R63 AMG and get her the ML350. Now that is an idea to ponder about.

Did that R500 had dark non-OEM wheels?

I've seen same Iridium Silver R500 w near black wheels few times on I-110 (I live in Pasadena). I've taken to notice of this one as my wife also has Iridium Silver R500.

On the water

Last month I took my R out on the (literally) frozen tundra of Green Bay. It was a hit among the ice fisherman. No problem traversing the ruts and drifts. Hopefully this pic will transit.

6500 miles and loving it. It is easily the best MB I have owned.

It has the aluminum and gloss black trim instead of wood. The sportseat bolsters are bigger than my E55's. Will post pics by Saturday.

I saw two R classes today, and actually one was a sport, which was the first one I had seen.

My question is, why don't the US R's come with the fog lights in the fron airdam like the European models?

The pictures of the S600 "Saks" does not show the same interior as the R Version "Saks".

The R "Saks" Version has brushed Aluminum Trim with Black Carbon Fiber Trim. The steering wheels is all Leather and does not have as smooth wood/lacquer section.

I have a Saks and as far as I can tell the "Saks" edition is the "European Sports" Edition. The Aluminum Pedals, Dash Trim, Sports Seats and Alcantara Inserts are all part of the "Sport" package. This package is not available in the US. It was only part of the original "Saks" run of 750 cars. If you want to research it further go to the German MB Website and follow the icons to the "R" series. Once there, you can choose the "Sport" version and the site will have pictures of what the package includes.

I had to do my homework because no dealer could tell me what was in the "Saks" package and if you could get the parts in other packages.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
