Is backup camera an option from factory on R500 2006 models or it has to be an aftermarket option?

I may be interested in doing this to our '06. What search terms should I use on eBay? There's tons of stuff s to sift through if just using "Comand".

Could you give me any pointers (picture would be fantastic) as to exactly where the inputs are. Thanks.

camera input pin 1&7

It is in the black connector, pin 1 and 7, you can see the numbers next to the pins.

I cut off a RCA cable from an old car radio, it has small connector pins on the other end. it works perfectly. Check it is around 75 ohm in between +/- RCA head after connection.

Let me know if you have other questions.

The most labor is to fit the camera on the back door. You have to break all the pins that hold the plastic panel. The broken pieces of plastic went in between the metal door panels. I some how broke the electronic lock in that process, it ran none stop, so I had to call the road side server guy over. But again, I have a new lock afterward, just it will last

The comand I got off eBay was one that exported to EU. It has a sticker in the front marking it has Cam enabled, yes, with Navi too. This way, I didn't have to guess if it has Cam or not.

Questions about back up camera for 2007 R-350

I have a couple of questions about installing a backup camera:

How do you "easily" find out if the COMAND is configured for one? We currently have two headrest DVD displays where movies can be played either via middle seat player, or via AUX on the COMAND unit.

Do you know if the Accelevision RVC1100 camera model will integrate? http://www.monstermarketplace.com/Au...574a28333.html

There just don't seem to be any sites that give me the exact MB specifications!

Thanx!

Adding to an older revived thread....I am about to purchase a comand unit that has the nav/sirius/cam enabled, out of an ML. I am removing the one from my R350, that has nav. I Will be doing the faceplate/lcd swap as well...can anyone help me with what else I need?

I am assuming I need not do anything on the NAV side, as that should just work....Do I need a Sirius module? If so, anyone got the part# or a source?

Do I need a cable/special connector for the camera? Is it factory run? Or do I just rig one and connect to the pins?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Guys,

How did you remove the trim from the rear tailgate and was it easy to run the video cable through the rubberboot?

Did you then run the cable through the headliner or the floor?

Is it worthwhile to run the cable myself or get an installer to fit it all up?

Does tapping into the Reverse light to power up the camera, cause an error?

no error for me, I have a kenwood camera, it is just slow to turn on since it only gets power when in reverse.

Given it's slow to come on, where else would you get power from instead of reverse?

I had my rear camera fitted today!

I picked up one off ebay with CCD sensor and guidelines. It was for the S-Class and we had to shave about 1cm off the base to fit it!

You cant tell we had to mod the base as the chrome trim hides all of it!

The installer also tapped into the 12V cigarette socket for 'accessory power' instead of using the reverse light. (They said that they have seen a poor power supply resulting in a scratchy picture)

I have to return next weekend to pull out the head unit and connect it using the FAKRA E (Green) connector.

When we tested the camera, it looked perfect given its CCD sensor and not CMOS. Its overlay guidelines do not move, but did have a flashing STOP in the closest section.

Hi GLO,

Could you please post a link to the cam you bought on e-Bay ??

You wrote "you shaved off to make it fit"
Could you please describe in detail ?
I think the R camera also fits in the ML so I could benefit from your tip.

Many thanks in advance,
Grtz,
Nico

Hi,

I've bought one of those wireless reverse cam that mounts onto the rear number plate. Question is, I can't seem to find a good route through the trim to the reverse light for power. Everything seemed so tightly fit. Can anyone advise how best to unclip the trims? Any fear in breaking them?

Thanks!

Hi Maxxie2,

this is the one i ordered. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/260745546195
The overlay is different but adequate.

We had to shave the front and back plastic to make it fit, it wasnt hard if youy have a mounted circular grinder handy.

the width 170deg view is ample however i would have like to see further back (but it may just be my mounting angle) The mounted angle lets me just see the edge of my bumper bar, which is the most important thing anyway.

Hi,

the chrome trim has to be unbolted after removing the interior boot trim.

Not hard, but just have a plastic tool so not to scratch paintwork inside the boot.

If i were you, i'd probably skip using the wireless unit, unless you have to mount a separate screen at the front of the car anyway.

Hi Ste,

You mentioned a wire is going somewhere, did you figure out where does it go? Does the wire go to the rear door, close to tail light?

Actually I want to know, how did you connect camera with the aux video input in COMAND? Did you route a seperate wire or use wireless camera?

Thanks.

18 months on and the camera has failed.

First the cheap ebay cam, did a great job but in the past 6 months, the image started getting flaky. (note that I did have it connected to permanent power)

Now I am on the scout to replace it with a better camera. Preferably something more factory fitting. (without modification, since the last one was for an S-class but needed shaving down to fit it in)

Does anyone know if the ML W164 would use the same camera?
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281078993291?

This one is only CMOS not CCD.

Rear back up camer on CLK500 2006

Does anyone know if the CLK500 2006 has the needed inputs for a back up camera already in place and if so how does one get to them? My command module looks like the one in this picture. Would love to have a backup camera on the car but only if the installation is fairly easy. I have seen some advertised on Amazon for around $50 for a license plate kit but don't know if it will work with this car and year. Thanks

Hope these help!

i use signal from reversing light to flick picture when in reversing mode, but it's crap when you start car,but if you use this signal and relay with other power supplier this problem will be solved.
