Not a lot of posts on R500, so here goes
My R500 has a few things wacky about it...
1. tail lights, error, even though bulbs are all good, any ideas?
2. trunk auto closer, doesn't close tight a lot of times, any ideas?
Going to the dealer for warranty soon, but wanted to see if you guys had similar issues?
Overall, love the car, plenty of space, and drives ok...a little slower then the C32 that it was traded in for, but growing families tend to make a guy drive a little slower.

Also, anyone replace the grill badge with this one yet?
Anyone know if this fits directly? Or are the grills totally different? from a 2006 R500?

2008 R350 & 2008 C300
The grills are the same across the whole model line up regardless of year. The R63, R500, R350, and R320 all have the same grills, the bumpers however do change. The R63 and all 2008 models have the AMG sport package bumpers, but it doesn't change the grill size or shape. Distronic was never an option for U.S. R classes to my knowledge, so that might just be a bad picture of a regular grill you posted, or an after market grill. It also can't be an R500 as the bumpers didn't look like that for R500's, they had the gray boxes at the corners, that picture shows either a R63 or a 2008 R350 or 320.

I have had mine two years, the auto trunk closer does not close tightly 75% of the time, it has had the latch mechanism replaced, scheduled for another trip to the dealer to fix it. No tailight issues, but I did notice that the panorama leaked under heavy rain in the beginning and water came down through the switchgear for the roof, and now surprise surprise two years later the switch has failed, but being fixed under warrantee. No other probs, though. Z

It is a local 2007 R500 with distronic for sale
Chilledbenz:
It is an R500, with the AMG package, and it has the distronics option. It is for sale locally, and I saw the car prior to buying another one, so I know the grill is correct...it actually looked the same as my car ( i purchased a similar one, with AMG package), but the emblem, was the same as the ones that came on newer AMG models, where it was a domed one...
Either case, not really worth my time to mod, as it's not much different.

Recently my brother-in-law informed me that he noticed the right rear tail light on my 2007 R Class was very dim and there wasn't any "error" message. I brought it in for service and the dealer replaced the complete left and right rear tail light assemblys saying there was a "short". This fixed the problem but I am am just glad that the vehicle is still under warranty. Hate to see what this would have cost!
I also have experienced a similar rear tailgate problem where the tailgate would not open the first time. The tailgate would partially open and then would close. Brought it to the dealer and they could not replicate the problem. It still happens sporadically and I have learned to "pull" the latch "assisting" the opening when this occurs.

brought it in
both tail lights got replaced, and there's an updated latch or something like that for the trunk...all on order, and will get replaced under warranty once in.
