Anyone done the 39K Tranny Fluid change?
Saw in my service book that service 20 is required at 39k miles. It's the transmission fluid and filter change? Anyone tackled this one themselves? If so, got any advice on how to go about doing it?

I've done this on my CL but not on the R yet. I have researched it though and it is much more difficult than the 5-Speed (722.6) transmissions. For one, there is no dipstick in the engine bay. The oil must be drained AND filled from the pan by means of a fluid pump. You'll need a drain plug adapter to plug the pump into as well. Then measure the oil level at the correct temps.

Basically, you can't do this yourself.
Plus know that there's a new fluid specification and should ensure dealer uses the new stuff.

do you guys know where i find info on the 39k transmission service?
i just got the 39k mi CPO R500, and supposedly anything w/in 5k is supposed to be done by MB dealer before they're allowed to sell it as CPO.
thx.

Figures, that kind of stuff really hacks me off...I love to service my own vehicles but the R has brought me to me knees on self maintenance. I can't even change the engine air filters in this thing cause I can't figure out how to get the airbox assembly out, obviously can't do the tranny fluid...what's next that's impossible?

Brakes are pretty easy, although it probably requires tools you don't have.
Most important, it's futile to attempt anything without having the Service DVD from Mercedes or without making your own by downloading everything via a 24-hr subscription at http://www.startekinfo.com
