R320 with AC issues

Hello to all,

Just wanted to vent. Bought the wife a 09 R320 2 weeks ago. We LOVED the car. However, this morning, in -17 C temps, the heating/defrost fans just quit. My wife was stuck in traffic taking the kids to school for close to 2 hours. When she got to work after dropping the kids, the damn thing started working again. I went to take her car after lunch to the tire shop for some new winter tires and the heating/defrost worked fine.

This evening, after she left work to go pick up the kids, the damn thing went on the fritz again. I told her to pass by my work because I couldn't believe that the thing wasn't working. I wanted to see for myself. Low and behold, she was right! I drove us and the family to the MB shop and we got a loaner (a damn B200).

I'm hoping that they will fix it fast.

Has anyone experienced this with their R class? Our baby is only 2 weeks old, and barely has 1000 km on the odometer.

Nope. That seems like an electrical glitch. I've never heard of that one.

It must be the harsh winter conditions that we have up here.

Thanks!

Well, I received word from the Mercedes advisor. He says the culprit was a defective fan. They have ordered it, and will be receiving it on Monday. He told me the car should be ready Monday afternoon. Oh well, the wife will be stuck driving the POS B200 this weekend.

Cheers

That really bites. Did you try and talk them into another loaner? Sometimes they'll pay for your car if you go to a car rental out of pocket, or at least pay your deductible.

I didn't bother. However, if we don't get the car back on Monday, I will rip them a new one!

Take care

Got the car back today. They changed the blower fan. Hope this is the last visit safe for regular maintenance.

We had an 03 ML320 which we picked up used with 60000 km. In the 2 years we had it, the only issues we had were 2 rear coil springs and shocks (changed under waranty), 2 hydraulic lifts for the rear hatch door and the usual oil changes. We put over 60000 km in 2 years that we had it (includes 2trips to Myrtle Beach, SC and a few trips to Eastern Quebec for whale watching will the kids) and all this on the original tires Michelin Crossterrains which were still good after we returned the vehicule at the end of the lease.

I had heard horror stories on the lousy reliability of the old MLs, and I must say this was one of the best cars we ever owned.

I hope the new R320 is just as dependable as the old ML was.

Cheers

Have you had any more problems with it since? Btw, Nice Renault. It's too bad we can't get our hands on some of these lovely European models in North America.

Nope, no problems (well... niggling power tailgate problems; once in a long while the locks would whir and cycle but the door wouldn't open) - did around 27,000 miles by the end of the lease, we returned it and bought a used one.

Re. the Renault, I love it to bits. It was an utter disaster, they only sold around 8,000 over three years worldwide! Too wierd and quirky even for a Renault. It was nearly sold in the USA under the Nissan brand, but they chickened out.

I have been looking for a used R350 for a little while now. I have checked the carfax of a few in my area that I am interested about. One thing that I have noticed is that a number of R350's had their AC compressor replaced. I wonder if this is an issue that has been resloved with the 08's and 09's. And if so, what was the specific problem. Comments?????

It seems I may have this same problem now with my R500 and also something else. This morning we headed to shopping center, A/C was not blowing cold, not warm, but not really cold either (couldn't reach the set 68 degrees).

When we headed back to home, it was blowing cold but now adjusting temperature didn't work properly. I could turn it colder but not warmer again. Pressed Auto A/C off then it turned also warmer a while, then again didn't do it, only colder and colder but not back warmer (so to say, I could turn it down to coldest temperature but not warmer again). Anybody has had the same problems and what was the cure?
