Tailgate Maladies

We've had our 07 R500 since July 07. During that time, we've had issues with the tailgate not opening properly either with the latch or the keyfob switch. The dealer has made adjustments which worked for a while but the problem has returned consistently.

Recently, after back surgery, I've noticed that when I use the latch ONLY to open the tailgate, it always opens smoothly. Previously, I had been squeezing the latch AND lifting the door at the same time. I now believe that the combination of those two actions confuses the mechanism and causes the door opening device to malfunction.

I'm curious whether anyone else has had this experience.

I've had the same issue

and dealer has replaced the motor once already, and seems to solve the problem for a lil while, now it's doing it intermittedly.

I usually don't pull it open, just squeeze the latch, and let it do it's auto open...it's off and on, sometimes it doesn't even want to open, so I have to pull on the handle to get it open like 6 inches, then it auto opens.

My conclusion, MB has no clue as to how to make auto open trunks, same reason they haven't made a sliding door for this car...

If I hold the tailgate latch too long, the mechanism seems to get confused. No problem though using the remote or switch in the door.
