AWD (4Matic) vs. RWD
I'm in the market for an R-class. Really looking for an R320, but they seem very hard to come by (especially the 7 seat model). Anyway, I've seen a few listing for R350s with seven seats and some are rear wheel drive only. I live in the VA/DC area so we get some snow, rain, etc., but not that much. Just wondering your thoughts on the RWD Vs. the AWD models. I think I'd rather have the V4 but it does limit my choices. Thoughts? Any noticeable difference in MPG?

My wife and I have a R500(awd) and i can tell you from experience, that stability that wagon/suv/minivan has in the rain and snow is unreal. At no time have we ever felt threatened by the road conditions whether it was torrential downpours in Florida or snow in Michigan.

We have 3 teenagers and often travel with in-laws, car pools, etc. I'd really like the option for 7.
Thanks. AWD sounds like a must have.

Do you really need the 7 seater?

It doesn't rain much here in southern California but when it does all the residual oil on the road that has been there since the last rain rises to the top of the road which makes the road very very slippery. My wife's R-350 AWD made me a believer on how well the 4-matic works in the real world.

I have three children myself, and would also want the 7-seater for the reasons you mention.
