Windshield washers

Can anyone tell me if they have:

1. Experienced VERY easily frozen windshiled washer lines on their R class

2. A solution (no pun intended)

The last two years we have taken it skiing and it is terrible!!! Freezes up when it's barely below freezing outside with the lowest temp. fluid I can find in the system. Is this just a reallly poor design? The worst part is it doesn't even thaw out well after the car has been driven fro some time. Last year we were almost to Charlotte, NC from West Virginia before they thawed enough to start working again. Stealership was zero help?

If you have a proper "winter" solution properly mixed according to directions and you've run some through the hoses so that's all that's in them, freezing is impossible. That is, you have to "purge" the lines of the inadequately prepared solution, as just having it in the bottle isn't enough. Nothing about this system contrdicts laws of physics or chemistry.

Thank you Mr. Wizard. Have you by any chance ever heard of wind chill, heat transfer and / or the equivalent heat removal of sub-zero temperatures attained by 80+ mph winds? I tried all that you recommended. the probelm seems to be that once you get to thelittle lines running far from any engine bay heat you get freezing. What solution are you recommending?

BTW, I will be driving through Sante Fe on the way to Wolf Creek to go skiing in the R350 in about 20 days so knowing what solution works out there would indeed be helpful.

I agree, very annoying and it happened to me more than once.

MB does have their winter solution, but can we put an after market in that says works in low temps?

I guess, anyone have luck with anything other than the winter MB solution?

Just got back from a trip to Colorado using the Prestone -30 over the counter stuff with no problems whatsoever. Even the back washer worked like a champ in temperatures as low as -15 indicated. I did drain and flush all the old blue crap befroe we went out and refilled with the Prestone but, again, it worked perfectly!

Zachmac: I think you may own LKChris a little apology. What he told you is what you ended up doing that worked. Your tone was pretty sarcastic in your remark, but he was 100% correct in his assessment.

lkchris,

Heron is right, I owe you an apology. Sorry for my smart *** response before. It seems the key is indeed a thorough drain and flush of the old crappy fluid first. Sorry if I was out of line; I know you were just trying to help.
