about to pull the trigger on an R but need rack input

Having already bought a wonderful B200 Turbo from our fantastic local MB dealer here in Winnipeg, we've decided to now get a hauler to replace our F150 Super Crew. Our choice was of course a 2006 fully loaded "black on black" R350.

The only catch is that we now need to rack the thing up for bike transport. Trailer hitch and roof rack.

[a] Wondering if anyone out there has installed a Thule/yakima track system on theirs (http://yakima.com/Product.aspx?Number=8001127). Our R350 has the Pano roof so there's some headaches involved with this endeavor I'm sure.

[b] Anyone have suggestions about a 2"trailer hitch?

Any thoughts or insight would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Thanks rosswell, already own holdup 4 (http://www.yakima.com/popup_img.html...er.ashx?ID=717) I suspect a hitch rack will take care of that.

I was looking for any new insight as I am specificaly looking for anyone with experience mounting a Thule/yakima track system (http://yakima.com/Product.aspx?Number=8001127) on their panoramic roofed R.

The factory rack is made by Thule. What I discovered is that in most cases it is quite a bit cheaper than buying all of the necessary Thule pieces you need to create an aftermarket solution.

Not only that but there are often promotions on racks.
For example, Mercedes Canada just had a winter promotion where they packaged up the rubber winter floor mats, a cargo tray, a roof rack, a ski rack, and the chrome trim for the door handles, for about the price of the roof rack alone.

I bought the Thule parts last summer from Amazon. We have on 06 with pano-roof. No headaches at all. The R has 4 mounting lugs hidden under hinged covers. Pop the covers open and screw in the threaded posts. Then the racks bolt onto the posts. Very easy and secure.

I also have a 2" hitch for a bike rack. There's already a thread on installing the hitch.
