Front right temperature dial not working

Hi all,

We usually don't adjust our temps very much and leave it at 68 or 70 degrees, but recently I found the front right temp dial would only turn right - warmer, and not work when I'm trying to turn it left - cooler. In fact, if I move the dial too quickly left, the temperature adjustment actually goes to the right - hotter.

Have any of you experienced this?

p.s. Strangely, my MB service advisor emailed me and said that the temp gauge problem was a software issue and that the $175 sfwr update WAS NOT COVERED under the MB CPO warranty.

fyi, another input from MB SA:

"Its not really a reset, it's an update to the climate control module. Aparrantly something goes wrong with the initial programing that does not allow the system to respond correctly to the dial imput. But to answer your question, no- reset, reboot, update, reload are all not covered by the extended warranty. They will only cover the updates on the SBC modules for select cars (03-06 E and SL). other than that we need to replace a part iin order to cover it."

This is a good example of why taking your car to the dealer (while still under warranty) is a good idea. My "software update" was completed by the dealer at no charge. THen my temp dials functioned perfectly.

FYI, I dropped the car today at MB - and I also put in a call to VP of MB USA and their customer service dept. Incidentally, I did have the R500 checked out PRIOR to the expiration of the 4 yr/50k warranty, and NOBODY mentioned the need to "upgrade the sfwr" - which was covered at that time. Now, the service advisor is saying the COMPUTER says it's covered under CPO - HOWEVER, the MB USA is no longer paying for these "upgrades" under CPO.
Will find out what happens tmrw.

FYI, the combination of my MB dealer AND the MB corporate working together got this issue resolved for me, and the "climate control" and temp dial is now good as new. It wasn't really the $175 as much as it was the idea behind why CPO should cover this "defect."
Just glad I have CPO til 100k miles.
