My driver side mirror (w/o memory or auto-fold) has been difficult to unfold. I always had to use both hand to do that. This weekend I decided to use one hand to unfold (not forcefully) and one of plastic latch broke. Now the mirror does not close tightly and afraid to force in and cause more damage. Drove to a nearby dealership and of course they said warranty does not cover and will cost me $500 to fix which is absolutely ridiculous. Anyone had the same problem and got cover under warranty repair? I searched the side mirror base costs $200 (list $260) and apparently you cannot just replace the broken latch only. Anyone has any idea....help!! Thanks.

What about going to your local MB dealer parts department and find out which other Mercedes Models (ML, GL ) and model years have the same mirrors as your R? Then contact some salvage/wrecking yards to see if they might sell you just the part you need or the entire housing at a more reasonable price.
