Hood Ornament

I like the Mercedes Hood ornaments but our R-Class has the Hood Emblem only.

Is there somewhere to order the Mercedes "stand-up" Hood Ornament for a 2007 R-Class?

Thanks

There are sites out there where you can order the star and you can even get them from the Mercedes parts department at your dealership....but they won't work. The underside of the hood is solid on the R, ML, and GL..not sure about the GLK though. At any rate, to get a traditional star to work, you need to be able to get to it from underneath, as it fits in two parts, the star part on top of the hood and a bolt on the under side to fix it to the hood.

If it would have looked good, the factory probably would have done it.

Installing is the easy part. How would I know if what I am ordering will sit properly with the correct angle for the hood?

That's how we ended up with the Pontiac Aztec.

IMO the R would have looked a little classier and more upscale if it had the luxury type grille like the S & E class models. The big pretentious star on the front of the car is what I actually like least about the car.

No..installing would be the hard part. Look at the photo, the star is in two pieces, a top and a bottom. You take the two apart and sandwhich the top and the bottom between the hood. So the top part goes on top and you screw the bottom part in from under the hood. The R class has a reinforced hood underneath with no cut out, so theres no way to get the bottom piece to fit through.

I suppose you could try cutting a hole through the hood, but because its reinforced in that area, it will be tough to do without creasing or denting the hood in.

That is if you want to install it the proper way. Otherwise you could just cut the bottom of the star off and super glue it into the hood. Lol

If you figure out how to get it to work and look good post photos!

Hmmm... going to take a bit of investigation.
