Octane fuel question

Hello,

We just got our 2006 R350 and like it a lot. We were wondering if it's safe to use 87 or at least a mid-grade octane for our vehicle?

Thanks in advace! You guys are great!

Thanks for your input amdeutsch although I haven't read my manual yet I'm sure it will say to use premium fuel only. Also before posting this thread I tried to do a search a few times on this topic but was unsuccessful doing so. So if you or someone else would be kind enough to help me with my topic question or give me a link on information about it I would greatly appreciate it.

In my opinion, the answer is NO.

a) Using 87 or 89 Octane gas, your MPG is suffered (lower) compare with 92 Octane. So you will not save much money.
b) It might damage the knock sensor if using for a long time.
c) Slow in acceleration.
