Thanks I',m sure that's the solution. Do you have any idea what size bolt,screw,torx is securing the lens housing? Also, how do you get a MB repair guide, like the PDF you have?

If one or more of your LEDs inside the housing are not working, one of the resistor is burned or opened.
To able to remove the len to replace bad resistor, use hair dryer to heat up around the housing of the len. I had fixed a few third brake lights on other cars and it worked (replaced bad resistor to restore the LED light)

Ikchris and Asian. Many thanks you're help was tremendous.
After much thought, the only way to successfully remove the "High Mounted Brake Light" was to actually to break off the red lens, and then using a small flat blade, depress the spring clips which allowed for the entire housing to come out. There was no way, to unscrew the torx screw in such a confined space, let alone not letting it or the spring clip fall into the door hatch hollow.

Trying to replace the third lamp as well, but can't follow the PDF file above. I got lost after opening the hatch. The pics are not too revealing. Anyone have better instructions or can add some color to this?
