I have the only Lemon 06 R500 then. New front airmatics, new AC compressor, new purge valve for the fuel system, new intelligent servo for the transmission, new AC control module, new AC blower assembly, and all in less than 90K miles/145KM.

Great vehicle when it is good but $4K in 60 days is not a good deal. No vehicle should have this many failures in this short of mileage that costs $72K.

I discovered there was a headlamp washing system after 3 years accidentally and looked back to this theread to know how it was activated

I do like the features listed here. Not to many cars are wequipped like that

Heating steering wheel!

My record is as low as 7.8l/100 km in 14-16 C no wind weather at 120 km/hr on 2 hr hauls

As for the realiability, my Bluetech is a bit unreliable and disappointing for a 76 000$ car(with tax and options):

Check engine on broken heating element in Adblue tank 2000$ paid on goodwill by mercedes

Major oil leak on the oil-prestone heat exchanger in the central Vblock cavity. Incompatible silicon rubber gasket. 1500$ paid at 75% by mercedes on goodwill

Leaking cranshaft oil seal (really???crankshaft?) discovered 750$ paid at 75% by mercedes on goodwill

Charge port actuator gone (caused by oil leak from the intake seal) AND intake manifold (flappers supposedly jammed in carbon but they were not) 1200$ paid at 75% by mercedes on goowill

Same incompatible silicon rubber gasket in the intake-turbo inlet

Very painful air filter changes (very bad design) and fragile air filter boxes

Fragile thin plastic intake manifold (was cracked and broken since new)

Now leaky air spring back left (its been tolerable for the past year but now getting annoying)

After 20 000 km, the bottom of both front fenders were on bare rusted steel. Was never on gravel road! bad design! .Mercedes decline to do anything. Bought splash gards that actually protect the fenders and the bottom of the doors as well

All those repairs were required and troubleshooted by me (not dealer) and corroborated by the dealer

OK, I've driven it for 100k miles and just found something out. If one key is in the ignition and running the car, the other key is disabled. My wife was in it last week running the air while waiting for me and I tried to open the rear hatch with my key. No Go. My key would also not lock or unlock the doors. I guess this is a security feature.

When in reverse, adjusting the passenger side mirror down to point at the curb will cause it to go to that position every time you put it in reverse.

I believe it's all done from the top .. ie. suction out the oil. Definately the oil filter is at the top of the engine (drivers side up front, quite easy to spot).
There is no oil drain plug at the bottom if i recall my checking on this myself a few months back.

I love my newly purchased R350 2010 except that I am stuck with the roof rack and the cargo box on the top of it and this thing is crazy low on MPG so I have been paying almost 50 a week for gas lol and I switched from a GLK 250 which would give me MPG of almost 40 and even more on long hwy drives and this R 350 gives me about 20 and low 20s if I am lucky!

All that said, it has been a great car so far and I am very happy with the drive, the space you got and the safety features.

completely new to me but there's a 'hidden' aux power socket under the glove box in the foot well, passenger side...
Hidden as it is bloody set quite far back and the only reason i found it was because i opened up the side panel fuse looking to fuse tap (installed a dashcam) and i didn't want wire running down into the centre console, and saw this socket ! ...
So now my dashcam/gps/rearview camera combo (works a treat btw) has power without me having cut up it's power cable or tap into a fuse
(ps.) ran the units power line along roof/window line and then under the rubber trim all the way down into the foot well. nothing showing.

I did not know that the R Class lives on.
The R Class is still being built. I almost choked on my coffee while driving through Indiana last week and saw a car carrier full of brand new black R class vehicles heading east. American General is building them for MB to sell in China because of the huge demand for large luxury wagons. http://www.amgeneral.com/our-product...es/commercial/

Check out the videos to see the assembly line.

AMG Rims
Quote: I guess we've gone OFF TOPIC on this thread. anyway just an update,
-The new 3.5 motor feels like a V8 while getting more MPG's
- the 2012 doesn't have the active curve bi xenons offered on the previous models.
- the airmativc on the 2012 seems to raise and lower the whole car instead of just the rear....at least that's what it feels like
- the new navigation system tell you current traffic conditions
-and lastly, the optional AMG rims look BAAADAAA$$$!!! on the R
But those rims have punctured or ripped three tires on my R350 over the years - usually from hitting a curb or something.

I think you have LED brake lights. In that case you might have to replace the whole assembly or solder in new LEDs.

It is kind of a combo of "standard" light bulb and LED. On the left rear, the upper light (regular bulb) works, but the lower (LED) does not. On the right it is the opposite. So having to replace the whole assembly because some lights do not work seems over the top. But hey, it is MB were are talking here, ha ha.

That said, I am going to give MB a call and see what they say. However, I still do not get why I cannot even change the brake light. The upper one, the regular bulb. That makes no sense to me. The manual only shows how to change the reverse light bulb.

Thanks,

G

p.s. I found videos that show how to change the brake light bulb on older R-Classes, but not for a 2012. I guess they change the whole assembly?!

Headlight cleaning system
TIL: headlights cleaning systems activates automatically every 10th windshield wash.
It was mentioned here before that to activate it you need to wash windshield 5 times, not sure if that works too

From 2012 R-class manual

Great thread! I just took delivery of my 2011 R350 tonight, in the snow. I can't wait to try some of these tricks. The salesman showed me the bottle opener in the divider first thing!
