2012 R350 tailgate opening angle programming

Hi, I am not able to find a related thread about my problem in programming the tailgate opening angle, need some help here.

I've tried to follow the menu to program the opening angle of the tailgate by

1. lift the handle, the tailgate start opening
2. press the stop bottom in the tailgate when the angle is reached
3. press and hold the stop bottom try to set the default and expecting a short tone as menu described but nothing happen. (how long do I need to press and hold? I have tried up to 20 sec but not able to make it)

Did I miss anything? I have tried to re-do the 1-3 with engine started, or just the ignition on but nothing seems to be able to get that "short tone" as indication of success?

Thank you so much for the help. Really appreciated.

On our 2006, the option is in the MFD menu to set two different opening heights.

Thank you very much. 2012 seems took that away and made it to programmable by the method that I have described.

sorry to revive this old thread, did you ever figure out why the 'short tone' was never heard? I am having the same issue in my 2012. Thanks in advance.

I made a post a little while ago, and this was my conclusion to a 2012 R350 tailgate and confirmed with a MB shop foreman.

From max opening of the tailgate to about 2 inches down from the max height, the tailgate cannot be saved at in that range. Any other range from 2 inches down to half (or lower since I didn't try any lower) is saved by stopping the tailgate and holding down the close tailgate button until you hear the chime.

It is unfortunate it was designed this way as max height slightly brushes against my garage door, but the first angle you may save it at doesn't allow me to stand up straight while under the tailgate

Thanks Iceblade! You solved the mystery... lucky that I must be quite a bit shorter than you such that the 'lower' settings still work for me. Thanks again.
