Fuel Control Module?

I previously posted about changing out my fuel pump:

https://mbworld.org/forums/r-class-w...p-problem.html

I took the car to a local mechanic and he suggested first checking the relays and the crank position sensor. Ultimately he diagnosed it as the fuel control module and he ordered one from MB. He was trying to get it coded after install and called MB who mentioned that the rear fuse box could have been the cause of the module going so we are swapping that out as well. After opening up the old control module it was obvious where the wiring had shorted. The mechanic seems pretty honest and he is cutting be a break on the labor. It was the dealer I took it to originally that didn't thorough.

My question-has anyone ever heard of the fuse box/fuel control module going? The car is an '09 with 54,000 miles on it.

Thanks.
