Do vents under third row make a difference?

All,

As mentioned before on the board, I've been searching for an R500 for the past few weeks. Thankfully, it seems that the wife and I have reached a point in which we're considering two specific vehicles out there in the world. One of them has vents under the rear seats, which leads me to two questions I have for all of you.

1. Do the vents back there make a difference in terms of comfort for passengers back there? We plan to use the area for at least one of our children constantly, so this is quite important. We can't have the kid(s) too hot or too cold while everyone else is comfortable.

2. What is the option/package that includes these vents called? Is there anything else included in it?

Thanks for your help,

mshii

my r500 has 3 zone and also has the rear ac option, not sure if there always together or if it could have one witghout the other.

rear ac puts an extra evaporator in the back, similar to the main one in the dash. bottom line is without it, will take a bit longer to cool all the way in the back, and the rear temp is tied to the passengers setting so no individual control. if your wife and kids are all of the same temperament it may not be so bad, my kid can sit back there with the ac blasting on high in January if he wants to while my wife is running pretty cool and I have a little more heat in my zone... it's not necessary it's an added luxury and really adds to the overall cabin cooling. I wonder if pano roofs require the rear ac? not sure but I would think pano should require rear ac, I wouldn't want a pano car without it, is it a panoramic roof one?

Thanks for your reply, turbocad. Apparently, the panoramic roof does not mandate 3 zone climate, for this one does not have it--at least, it doesn't have those vents down there. I'm going to go look at the vehicle in person today, as the other one I was considering has been ruled out due to shady dealer antics as soon as they found out I wanted to have a PPI. We received a call saying that the DVD system had mysteriously had been removed and that they could discount the car $500 for their mistake. I am disappointed, but happy that I was informed before the car was purchased and made the 1,500+ mile journey to my residence.

I can only imagine explaining that one to my wife when we opened the doors for the first time!
