Bad battery causes my trunk not to open

My automatic trunk stopped working this past Saturday. When I pressed the buttons, it will unlatched but will not go up nor down. I tried to open it manually but it will not stay up.

I did a lot of research and the first result was failed hydraulic pump. Then a guy on ML forum casually mention battery can cause the hydraulic pump to not have enough power to open the trunk.

The old battery was the original. I can tell it was on the last leg with some hesitation to ignite the car. But I had never seen any battery warning message on the dash. Long story short, Indy replaced the battery and the trunk starts working again immediately.

If you have trunk problem similar to mine, may be you should try to find a way to juice up the battery and try to open the trunk again. It may work.

Interesting. Did you have the trunk problem while the engine was running?

Good question. I think it was not running.

So my 2006 R500 trunk won't release. I can do it manually from the inside (total PITA) and then it will raise and lower just fine. Is it a battery issue or a hydraulic issue? another thread suggested it is a $650 fix. Not sure I want to sink that into this one with 115K on it.

2006 R500 trunk won't release

BTW, doesn't matter if car is running or not....trunk will not power release, though after I release it manually from inside, it will lower and close perfectluy.
