Considering Purchase R350 or 320 ?

I have looked at a few of the R models. Test drove a 500 model 2006 with 69K on it. Also drove a 2008 R350 with 85K
Between the two the 08 felt much better. Not really sure why but it did.
I am planning to drive a diesel today and see how that feels.
I haven't come across a buyers guide if there is one left me have it!

Any clearly better reasons to buy one over the other?

Are you referring to the R350 gasoline model or diesel model?

I was reffering to the R350 gas engine. I know these had some issues with the balance shaft. What years are affected by this problem ?

May I suggest the 2008.. Lots of teething problems with the 2006.
I had a 2008cdi and the diesel gets expensive to fix when things go wrong.. Injectors,$1000 each) pre heaters($500)... oil cooler leaks ($5k+) particulate filters ($2k+) Often the air filters are not changed because they are difficult to do . Also check if the fuel filter water separator has been purged... just open the tiny knurled knob on the fuel filter under the air filter housing... has to be purged every oil change.. If they took it to jiffylube it would never be done..
the diesel is really torquey, I loved it, but it gets noisy at light throttle. I would not buy another diesel .. nice but...

Could you find something more recent? 2011 facelift like mine is awesome.. fully loaded...

I can find 2011 facelift models but the cost increase is significant. The 2008 has been well maintained. Still under warranty and always has been so a lot of repairs were made.
It seems the R,s in general have a lot of issues but I am hoping that has just been overstated.
I did drive a facelift model and some options seem to go away at that point. No rear climate controls for one.
Non airmatic which is probably a good thing.
Anyone no if MB starting taking out features to cut the price with the face lift models ?

Are the costs you mentioned actually items you replaced on your diesel ?

yep... save the injector...
all the rest where warranty items.. imagine if they where not.
Oh and a sam module that drained the battery a few times before I raised hell because I got stranded at the airport at 1 in the morning at -30C! At least I got a new battery out of it with previous failed repair attempts!
