20" x 9" et 45 wheels

I am proposing to put new 20" x 9" ET 45 alloys on my new 2007 R350 L SE, as it currently sits on worn 18" factory wheels, and also the tyres are on their last legs, so they will need a change.

Can anyone confirm they will fit OK? I am fairly certain they should work well.....

Cheers!

Beside the fit, watch out whether they can carry the weight. Google images for broken wheels.
R-class is a pretty heavy car.

As a follow up, yes they can handle the weight as each wheel is 900kg a corner rated.... so how does that fitment sound?

I was also mooting maybe only going down ONE tyre size (profile) wise to have a bigger tyre on for ride comfort, but this will throw off speedo etc, as as a 20" wil roll on 45 profile correctly, 45 profile seems to be plenty of tyre anyway, so I migth just stick to "proper" tyre.

well a 30 profile is WAY to small. As I said above a 45 profile is correct for a 20.

Your current tires look to be about 26.5" tall. There must be a gap large enough to drive a subcompact car thru!

I'm planning the same tire swap to a taller sidewall like you. But waiting for my factory 20's (265/45r20) to wear some more. They are 29.4 tall.

This might help you figure it out. I put the below spreadsheet .pdf together while toying with the idea of doing a drop (and going with a taller tire to keep the soft ride). Based it all on the tire size charts found here https://tiresize.com/chart/.

First a 285 tire (11.2" wide) on a 9 inch rim is probably the widest you should go. Even that is pushing it. A bit better would be something like a 275/50r20. That would give you about a 1.5" taller tire than stock overall at 30.8". You'd pickup about 3mph when cruising at 70 on the speedo. You could go taller but the speedo would be way off and with a tire that tall you'd have a tire sidewall height look that's even taller than how the R looks with the 18" wheels.

I'd personally prefer the 265/50r20 (30.4" tall by 10.4" wide) though since the speedo would be closer to being accurate and the tire width is similar to the OE tire / wheel width... But the jury is still out.

Hope that helps.

255/45/20 seems the correct size all around for me....

Just need to order int he wheels now. And new hubs and bearings as mine are rusted to hell!

Also need to find some nice replacement bolts that work ok with aftermarket wheels.....
