I bought a 2007 R 500. It only had one Smart Key Fob. The previous owner found one that does not work in his other cars and gave it to me. I tried using it but with no success. It will not even move the ignition to any other position when inserted..
The battery in the Fob appears to be OK as I get the red light when I push the buttons on it. Can this Fob be programmed to work with the car? What would the cost of having it work be if successful?

You got stiffed by the seller----the batteries only function the convenience features-----throw the second key away it will never work in your car as the key logic is for another car and the cost of reprogramming the key is equal to a new key supplied by MB.

What else will be wrong with this cream puff???

Yep you have to go to MB with your VIN and registration to order an new key
