That wasn't me -- I was following up on my post from last Nov, regarding my '08 which only has 130k mi. I reread thread and found it amazing that someone had 275k trouble free, but now I see I confused "ghenry" with "princemarko", but 191k trouble free is still impressive, and unlike mine. Anyway, "Collectiveink" resurrected this thread, they have the crank but no start issue at 242k mi.

122k miles and still going strong! Purchased with 38k miles CPO. I upgraded the struts and springs (H&R). Over the years, I've replaced steering pump, water pump, fuel pump, fuel filter, rear air bags and front control arms. Mostly after market parts, except fuel filter and pump due to labor. This year I will upgrade the exhaust and command unit. Beast mode!

MendezR350, which engine do you have? Diesel, M272 90 degree gasoline V6 or M276 60 degree gasoline V6?

The M272 is a 90 degree cylinder block, and uses a balance shaft. The M276 is a 60 degree cylinder block, and does not use a balance shaft.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. After doing some research, it looks like I have the M272 engine with balance shaft. Unfortunately, I may be experiencing the early signs/symptoms of worn balance shaft gears... The check engine light came on last week and my OBD reader is throwing Code P0025 - B Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Retarded. I'm going to bring this to the attention of my Mercedes-only mechanic to see what he thinks. Last thing I need are blown cylinders.. Please let me know your thoughts, I came across this WIKI thread which explains the balance shaft gear issues: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_M272_engine

Possible. Search this site and also Google to find a list of engine numbers affected by the balance shaft situation. Or post your VIN here and we can help you with that.

122 doesn't seem particularly high these days -- and sounds like a lot of repairs/maintenance. If I recall my manual says fuel filter and pump around 143k high milage service or 15 yrs. Why did you do have to do yours?
Rear air bags -- do they go bad on these cars, or why replace them? I'm also curious about the the Command replacement - what are you replacing with (and why)?

My car -- 08 R350 -- now has 133k. As mentioned in a previous post, not driving much anymore. But now right rear sags after a few days of sitting... air spring was replaced 3 or 4 yrs ago. Feels like it's deflating too slow to be the air spring again, might be a fitting at the valve block or the valve block itself... Don't know. I suspect we wouldn't notice it if it was a daily driver. Again, in my experience these cars are not trouble free. Still surprised at 191k w/o issues!

2008 R550 with 208000km. Replaced a front air strut - not hard to do,cost was modest, about 2.5hrs completed in driveway. Other than that, just brakes. So far very reliable. Had it for 3+ years.

Just bought a 2011 R350 CDI (LWB) 4Matic with 232.000km / 144k miles on the clock. Feels solid and I'm anxious to see how will it run this winter on snow (I live in the mountains). Anyone have had 2 new (front) + 2 old (back) winter tires situation and is that bad for the 4matic? Thinking about upgrading to all 4 new.

The R-class is great in the snow when equipped with proper snow tires. The 4Matic is a very good system. Having said that - it's always better to replace all 4 wheels with tires rather than running 2 old on one end. Eg: with more worn tires on the rear, the 4Matic may be fooled into moving more power to the front wheels (thinking the slightly higher rotation speed of the worn rear wheels indicates slippage).

I haz all the dad cars - R63 AMG, 2022 GLB 250, and a 2018 E63 Wagon.
I have a 2007 R63 AMG with 143k miles. Only just got it, but sunk 10k into restoring it. I have a thread open in the R63 AMG sub forum if you are interested in the particulars but it basically has a brand new top end. It drives like new now.

It is violently fast. With a brake start it feels like you are being punched in the back. It’s really hard to stay off the accelerator.

Bet that R63 is a blast and sounds good too! I can relate with the kick in the back with my CLS55 hard to keep traction! I do have an 06'R500 too with 143k on it. Owned it for 15 months now. Did both rear air bags with Arnott, new rear Bilstein shocks, HID retrofit for headlamps, spark plugs and wires with all driveline fluids. I have an RaceIQ ECU tune and getting a modded airbox from a forum member.

2008 R320, 2002 E320
Just bought my '08 R320 in September 2019, 145K miles. Just prior it needed new air suspension. I just replaced the AC compressor. I had the transmission serviced just to be safe, but plan to do so every 60K miles or so. I don't believe there were any other major repairs. All of the vent tabs seem to have fallen off and I'm replacing them a few at a time, but otherwise seems great so far. Did the fuel filter immediately and will change it religiously, but that's specific to the diesels.

Wish it was an R63, but happy with the R320. It still turns heads - nobody knows what it is.

Time to chime in, have an '08 R350 4Matic with 216K miles on it, bought it in 2013 with 70K. I'm becoming convinced that these engines, when religiously maintained with MB spec Mobil 1 synthetic, last a lot longer than we're used to, thinking we need to reset our expectations to 300K and not be so impressed with 216K...

Only major issue was torque converter about 20K miles ago - instead of replacing it ($$$), I found a guy on eBay who rebuilds TC's for $250, so with my indy mechanic's labor total cost including shipping to/from Chicago was less than $1000. Smooth as glass now.

And I'll add this tangent in case anyone in this thread has had similar experience (God knows I've searched the forum), struggling with the rear liftgate; right now it opens normally, but the red lighted button to close it doesn't light up and doesn't do anything, and when I try to close it with the key fob or driver's door button it stops halfway. When I close it manually and drive off the hatch open warning light comes on even though it's latched tight. Also get a message, maybe not related but happened the same time the failure started, that the left license plate light is out when it isn't. I've got the iCarSoft OBD reader but it doesn't show any codes, though it does show a rear SAM fault. Don't want to replace that without more evidence, probably need a STAR reader. Sorry for the tangent.

Great mileage achievement!

Possible candidates for replacement for the liftgate situation:
- actuators/motors
- latch
- button
- control module
- rear SAM water infiltration, this is not uncommon on W/X164 vehicles

Just bought a 2010 R350 Bluetec-- 172k miles. Airmatic suspension was just redone by the PO. Check Engine Light is on, and I'm told it's the typical Adblue fault. 2 days into ownership, I get the ABS/ESP Inoperative fault. I've ordered an iCarsoft MBII OBD reader, and will address that issue first (hoping it's just an ABS sensor). The Adblue issue will be addressed by a deletion.... Hoping I can get at least 250K out of it, though I understand it will involve some investment in time and money.

R350 and CLS500
My 2006 R350 4Matic is at 212K Km (131,730 Miles) and I am the second owner after MB who had it as a dealer car. It is a great car from a space and look standpoint but I had extensive design-flaw issues in the beginning that MB Europe agreed to cover at their expense after I spent about 4K euros trying to fix (that were never reimbursed). Essentially, whenever it rained a large quantity of water was being guided down to the electrical box that sits in the driver footwell. The suspension is a known issue and I have had to replace 3 out of 4 of them since purchasing the car in 2008. I noticed that another member also mentioned the liftgate issue - stops halfway on its way down. Recently I was ready to give up because the suspension was going haywire, the car would not change gears properly and all of the warning lights lit up like a Christmas tree but, as it turns out, it was just a question of replacing some defective ABS sensors; unfortunately this happened during a family road trip but can't blame MB for bad timing.

Hi jneal3110

I have the same issue and did you get to know what was the cause and if any resolution.

Thanks.

The short answer is it was the lock mechanism. Since it was actually locking when I manually closed the gate I thought it was good, but had the car in to my indie mechanic for something else and had him do a quick scan with his STAR and told me it was the lock, but wanted $500 parts/labor since it involves pulling the interior trim, but there are videos online that show how to do this whole job and it's pretty straightforward. Works like a champ now.
