I know this might be a strange request, but does anyone have a factory hitch for their R-Class that they would be willing to take measurements on it and send to me. The reason i ask is I don't like the placement of the aftermarket hitches, (they hang too low imo) plus i don't like the idea of paying $750.00 for a factory hitch. I have talked to a friend of mine with a fabrication shop that will make me a hitch if i get him all the measurements. Since i have a drafting background and can put the prints together easily. I would be willing to share the drawings with others after they are finished.

Can a factory hitch still be bought? I have only found aftermarket ones but do not like having to cut out the rear valence. Thanks

I'd be a player for a group buy on a factory hitch repro. I have a track bike to haul and have to bum truck rides every time I go to the track.

The factory hitch is attached to rear frame behind the bumper... so very difficult to get to in order to make any measurements. There are no mounting point visible under the rear trunk portion like on the after market hitch.. and yes it protrudes thru the lower rear bumper/valence. I gather thats what you dont want to cut? Even if you get a factory hitch you will have to cut thru it.
