Hi all,

I’ve got a problem. My battery is dead and it turns out the mechanical keys don’t work in the locks.

I tried jacking it up and taking the belly pan off and connecting the booster cables directly to the alternator, but there’s not enough room to get the clamp onto there positive terminal.

Any other thoughts?

i tried looking for the hood release cable from underneath, but I don’t think it’s accessible.

Try calling a roadside assistance (towing) service in your area, or the local M-B dealer in your area. It being Sunday today, the dealer option is probably a Monday morning thing.

Years ago the local police would open locked vehicle doors. This may or may not be an option in your locality.

Okay. I solved it. You have to turn the mechanical key and leave it turned. Then you have to pull the handle sharply 3 - 4 times. Then the lock will pop up.

It’s quite peculiar. It’s not like any of the other benzes I’ve had that have the same key system.

I left my R350 running, closed the drivers door but the window was down. I locked all doors an pushed the window button to close the window so I could have a coffee. When I got back after 20 minutes the car key wouldn't unlock the doors.
I did plug in the mechanical key in the drivers door, turned it 90 degrees counterclockwise and pulled the handle sharplly three times, it unlocked all four doors.
