Fuel pump challenges 2006 R500
Picked up an R class this spring - beautiful car but the fuel pump has given me fits
i had the warning that the fuel cap was bad and traced it to a leak on the seal of the fuel pump
I replaced the pump with a depheli pump and shortly I found the fuel pump fuse melted and now I’m replacing a fuse box and looking for the root issue
looks like the previous owner had issues here.
are fuel pump problems common? Is this one of those places where only MB parts are required?

Hello, my pump was original and had 150k before failing. I cannot speak to an aftermarket pump as I bought Mercedes parts from fcpeuro.com but have to install yet. Did you have to drain your fuel tank?
I tried sticking different diameter tubes down the filler neck to suck out gas but I hit a block and cannot get to fuel. Of course I have a full tank of gas... go figure.
Sounds like your Amp draw is too high hence melting wires. The Delphi pump should have an Amp rating on it or you could find online.

Did you also replace the filter module in the tank too? High restriction can lead to high pump Amp draw but you should have popped a fuse vs melt wiring.
Look for water intrusion on your rear SAM Module.
