I haz all the dad cars - R63 AMG, 2022 GLB 250, and a 2018 E63 Wagon.
New, all electric R-Class

The EQS SUV announced today is almost identical to the LWB R-Class in every dimension.

Anyone ready to pony up? The fastest version will be considerably faster than my R63. Now, I just need to find a way to come up with the cash...

Wow indeed! Given the price of oil today, this one looks very interesting.

2006 R500
Do the middle seats (and ideally rear seats) recline? I assume they should. That is really the biggest reason we love our R500. The GLS didn't get reclining seats until the X167 generation, which is why we haven't even considered the X166 as a replacement. I presume the EQS SUV would have it considering its status.

Much more compelling than any Tesla. Now if only I can afford it...

MEH, no,. the R class is unique in its length and 3 seats that all fold down. I will miss mine, 2011, 200K km when it dies. the closest form factor is the ford FLEX

I beg to differ, the proportions are nearly identical and the back two rows of seats fold flat.

R-Class Dimensions: 203.0 x 77.1 x 65.4 in (L x W x H)
EQS Dimensions: 201.8 x 77.7 x 67.0 in (L x W x H)

Well then, thank you! I stand corrected. Nice car! I purchase both my R classes certified pre owned at less than half price of a new one. less than $35K canadian. fully loaded. If I can pick up an EQS SUV in 2027 at half the price of a new one, I may bite! Gorgeous car!

Maybe faster, but probably very boring, as all electric cars are, no matter what power they have. The sound is at least half of the experience. Now that is where the R63 outshines.

Nice, but will it get me from Ohio to Florida, 1150 miles, in under 17hrs.?

Each has their own qualities. I've owned several electric and hybrid cars and found them quite enjoyable. My R63 is fun for the occasional giggles, but in daily driving I'd happily drive the EQS SUV. I'll be watching to see what they do with the AMG version.

Can your Fiat do that without a mechanic in the passenger seat? ;-)

15 minutes to charge 180 miles, approximately. That means approximately 6 stops to charge, adding 1.5 hours of charge time to the trip. I presume at least 2 of those stops can be used for bathroom/meal breaks, so actual added time to the trip just for charging is about an hour. If you're like most people, you'll have an extended rest break in which case you can charge to the full 300 mile range, potentially eliminating another charge stop, resulting in about 45 minutes of additional time needed for charging. Not bad when put in that perspective. Stops just for gas probably already takes up 20 minutes, so an additional 25 minutes to drive an EV doesn't seem like that big of a deal given the other benefits.

Of course, the above assumes that fast DC chargers are available along the entire route and you don't have to wait for other people. Fast DC chargers aren't everywhere yet but the inftrastructure is getting built up. It's not if it will happen, but when.

Actually, it looks like the EQS 580 SUV is NOT quicker than the Mercedes AMG R63 because it's 1000 lbs heavier. 4.5 sec for 0-60 mph per Mercedes with the same 3500 lbs tow capacity and 4Matic. See https://www.mbusa.com/en/compare-veh...3-eqs-eqs580x4
