Hello mbworld people!.
I purchased an R350 with a bad transmission, replaced it and thats taken care of, had misfires (very old sparkplugs) that fixed it. I replaced the magnetic actuator (not OEM but Doorman) ,but unfortunately the p0016 code keeps coming every time at second time start.
My timing marks behind magnetic actuators are ok (please see pictures because of angle the look off but they are right in the middle, and for RH cam as you can see is spot on), and from what I can see in live data is that the intake cam on the right bank, is stuck, (please see picture) while all the other cams are constantly variating this one does not move.
My questions.
1. Any other people with know fixes please.
2. Is there a way to replace the camshaft variable time actuator (not the already replaced magnetic adjuster) with the minimum disassembly
?
I decided to order a Bosch cam sensor, (amazon $27 overnight shipping, arrived 7:30am!)
Should have would have, only checked that sensor had connector sitting all the way, never disconnected it, well when I did disconnect it for replacing it, connector had oil in it and pins were not submerged but, wet with oil, things started to look good. Thankfully oil had not run through harness.
Installed cam sensor in less than 10 minutes. signal immediately started to feed the ecm, and matches the other cam, no more P0016.
No one answered/replied, but I hope this helps someone.
Great to hear that it's resolved. I WAS going to respond about the use of Doorman (but didn't) since I thought it was deeper than that given the other information you had provided. Doorman works on my old Tundra but the Benz (R500 and a pair of C230's) all throw codes at anything other than Bosch. I can't count the number of times I bought Doorman only to have the issue reappear and then clear when I dropped Bosch into it.
On my R350 this P0016 pops up the same as it did for you - on every other start after clearing. Replaced timing chain, the gear and three or four magnets, all just on the right cam and it still is doing it. Ordered the new valve and will report back.
How are you able to see the live data?

Autel Scanner, that has mercedes option (most of them do) you will not get this live data with a generic OBD scanner.
Basically any scanner that has brands will do.
