Some how my headliner is sagging back there.

In my experience the fiberglass backing will hold up for 20 years or so (Honda, Volvo) before they start to let go.

Really not happy about this. Thinking of putting some thumbtacks back there to stop it from spreading.

Has there been any advancements on headliner repair where I will not have to take the whole thing out if caught early enough?

I was at the auto graveyard recently and came across an earlier model R-class. With time to kill i decided to go ahead and try my hand at removing its headliner.
shows the steps to do it on a ML/GL-class and its remarkably similar.

There are guys around me who work at car shops that redo headliners. These guys also do this on the side and inwas told they can get it done for $300-$400 if they have to deal with removing and reinstalling the headliner vs $200 or so if i bring the headliner to them. Im VERY tempted to do the headliner myself based on what i am seeing on Youtube and tbe fact that i need to do the headliner in my truck also.

IF i am to go this route i'd likely try my hand at the truck first as the HL is easier to deal with and any rookie mistakes that might occur can be easily forgiven with it.

Any thoughts from anyone who has tried this?

Im still driving with the sag unfortunately.
I got some quotes to get it done (from independent types who do it in the shop but will do it in their garage for me) but it hasn't progressed to the point that its a need to do item.
Im living with it and no one notices it. Except me when I look in the rearview.
When it gets progressively works (towards to middle seats then I'll have to make my move.

Unfortunately I still have a touch of water ingress from the 3rd tail light despite my best efforts to seal it with silicone.
I'll have to sort that out before I do the headliner or I'll be back to square one as its that will do it in before the heat and age does.
Hope this helps.
