EIS issues

I have a 2007 R 320 and I'm experiencing some EIS issues. When I turn off the ignition the car sometimes continues to run even after I remove the key. I'm guessing that replacing the EIS module is the fix. My questions is, if I buy a used EIS can the unit and my current keys being reprogrammed to work together? Or should I find a NIB EIS and have it installed and reprogrammed with my keys? Or is there a better solution?

Thanks in advance for the help and insights.

I would test Front SAM or fuse/relay panel from engine compartment, first.

I assume you haven't scanned for codes. Start there or you'll be wasting your time and money by guessing. If you haven't got a scan tool, invest some money and it will save you plenty.

I cant be definitive but it does depend on how far you want to go. If you just want to diagnose, clear codes and do a little more, look for an Autel tool that does what most people are satisfied with. Foxwell is another brand and Icarsoft V3 (not V2) also considered to be good. It's price driven but avoid cheap tools. OBDII only tools are useless. You need something that reads.MB specific codes.

If a Windows laptop is available, then Xentry Passthru with Openport interface ( a lot of links here on forum) 60-70$

My Indy MB shop confirmed that the EIS needs to be replaced. They are way backed up and I'm consider doing the work myself. My question is can I simply replace the EIS or do I need to reprogram so that the system recognizes it?
Overall, it looks rather straightforward and I think that I can go up under the dash above the pedal area. thoughts?
Thank you.
