How to get access to wires inside headlight.

Before I start this work I would like to ask if it's doable at all, or if I just have to buy a new headlight.

It's a R-class from 2006 with bi-Xenon. One of the headlamps has been replaced some years ago, but the left one seems to be the original one, and the light is really poor. I bought a set of new Xenon bulbs, and removed the cover to get access to the old bulb. Then I noticed that several of the wires inside the house were rotten, and the insulation was broken several places.

This must of course be fixed, but if I remove the headlight, will it be possible to open the house so I can replace the cables? I might be able to find out of this if I remove the light myself, but was hoping someone had done this before and could give me some feedback.

Remove the top screw on the back of the headlight, bake it in the oven at ~225 C for about 15 minutes, then pry your headlight lens off. If you can't pry them off, turn up the temperature and/or leave them in the oven longer. I know your pain- I cut out all of the original wiring and replaced them with new wires. The solder heatshrink connectors made the process much easier.

While doing that, do yourself a favor and replace the projector. The original one will be burnt out by now and is the reason why your lights are so weak. New bulbs won't fix it.

Since the original D2S 5.0 retrofit, I have replaced them with NHK M5 Plus LED projectors and they are stupid bright. I thought the FX-R 3.0 with 55 watt ballasts and bulbs were like daylight before.... nope, these NHKs are even brighter. No problems with the Mercedes electronics either.
