When I was selling MBs at MBLN, I took the only one we had Silver/Black R63 to Cars and Cofee in Irvine.
It handled very well for a minivan on steroids and was fairly quick, but 4-wheel drive and 4800 lbs. sapped the power.
It was latter leased out. At this time it is on order basis only, although some dealer might have one on the lot.

I agree 100%!!! I'm not a mini van enthusiast in any sense but the R63's styling is quite attractive.

There will be no R63 sold in the USA with MY'08.
There will be no R550 sold in the USA with MY'08
The last V-8 R-Class built for the U.S. market was built this month.
For MY2008 there are three U.S. models available:
R320 CDI (42 State)
R350 2WD
R350 4WD

E55 Wagon Rules
100% right. The E55 has it all over the butt ugly R63. Who is the rarest of the all? Who cares. The funeral home analogy is correct. I wouldn't be caught dead in one. Love my 2005 blk AMG wagon.

I traded in my '05 E500 4Matic Wagon for an '07 R Class for one reason only - Interior ROOM! The decision to purchase an R63 was made because if I HAVE to drive a Van I want it to be fun -
I really enjoyed the E-Wagon, handled great, over 20mpg on the road, solidly built and comfortable (for the front seat passengers). However, we also haul the twin grandkids around and even at 4 years old their leg room in the second row was marginal (I am 6'2"). In addition, traveling with the kids was difficult due to limited luggage space behind the second row and forget about having anyone except double amputees use the rear folding jump seats.
The R Class is significantly more roomy than the E Class Wagon. Styling is subjective (and admittedly is an acquired taste) but I really like the fact that you won't see yourself "coming and going" and the majority of motorists have no idea what this thing is (I had heard that only 200 R63's were built for the 2007 MY and none after that). I can't tell you how much fun it is to be at a stoplight and have a Hummer, Rice Rocket, Mustang, Boxster or virtually anything else wonder why they can't get in front of a Van with Toddlers in car seats!
Interior Room was the reason for selecting the R Class, but choosing the R63 was for the reason above.

Couldn't disagree more Germancar1. This is the best car ever. Long wheelbase, roomy luxurious, discreet and better performance than almost anything. Great city car, great long distance car too. To each their own.

It may have been all that, but as an AMG product it was a total embarrassment. A souped up wagon/crossover/van thingy was just ridiculous. The R500 or a R550 is all the performance anyone would need in such a vehicle. I've never seen it tested, but I'm sure that "better performce" is only in a straight line, lord knows it isn't going to outdo anything in the corners.

There are atleast 2 in Pittsburgh, which is a small town. Judging from these posts alone there are more than 44.

??? :dude ! ! !
here's the msg I got from the factory:
"Dear M. -
There were 44 model year 2007 R63 vehicles produced and sold. They were
made to order only.
Sincerrely,
Robyn L.
MBUSA 1-800-367-6372"
Anyway, yeah, it's great car. OK

Actually, according to U.S. vehicle registration info, there were 38 2007 Model Year R63's registered in the U.S. last year and 50 registered thus far this year for a total of 88. There are almost certainly a handful of unsold R63's on dealer lots that will add slightly to this total but it appears that the total number of R63's in the U.S. won't exceed 100. This represents less than .3% of total R Class Registrations. In any case it is and will be a very rare vehicle!

There are only 4 R63 here in New Zealand. 1 is available (ex demo with 7k miles) Tanzanite blue with all options. I'm thinking of trading my E55. I was told they are built on the 'S' platform. The look is growing on me. Definately unique - esp. here in NZ.

R63
I was considering going for the GL, but I prefer the R class.
Anyone who knows where to find a used R63, any one who knows a friend who is about to sell his?
I checked MBUSA ebiz and autotrader...zero units found.
In the end, it might take an R500.
thanks,
Bart

I saw an R63 on 405 south north of Bellevue, WA the other day and I immediately thought of this thread and how rare the car is. So I took my time driving around/behind it and checkin it out...
I swear, its not as ugly in person.
