Southocean, congrats on the GL63. I love opening those third row windows and listening to the noise when driving, but I think the car should be a little louder. The 5.5tt does sound good but I think the 6.2 is slightly better. Too bad you didn't go with a more unusual exterior color but I guess we all make compromises when the significant other enters the equation. Did you go with the brown interior? Can you remind me of the options you got?
As for further mods, I have something one off lined up for the exterior but it'll be a little while before it's completed.

So any hints as to the last update you have up your sleeve? Would you ever consider something to amplify the exhaust sound just a bit???
Kind regards

Sorry for the belayed response. The exterior bits are taking forever to get lined up but I seem to have some good leads. The only hint is that I'd like to do some carbon details outside.
Don't think I'll do anything with the exhaust, it's got a decent note from the cabin for going around town.
Our local dealer has a new GL63 on the floor. Shame it's just boring black on black with only 2.5k in options.
Your brown interior with matte trim sounds awesome!

A possible $20k in options is hardly nothing even though the bulk of options is tied up in the BO sound, Night Vision, RSE, and Driver's Assistance.

If I was forced to drive a mini van, the R63 would do the trick. That's prob one of the rarest AMGs you'll see.

Well the E55 doesn't have sliding doors, so what's really stopping you?
Still have a few mods up my sleeve, they're just taking forever to get the right people to work on it at the right times.

Hey everyone! I took a quick drive up to Vancouver BC and met yet another R63 owner. Henry's got a real clean Obsidian Black R63 on 22s with a tan interior. This is a full option US spec model. Really cool meeting up with Henry and checking out his ride.

Hey really really nice car! When I started reading the thread I was like wtf why would someone want to re-build an R63. But after seeing what you`ve done to yours I can see why! Looks f*%cking awesome! Well done!

Thanks for the posts guys!
I've never tried turning off the traction and pulling on the highway to be honest! Sometimes I'll get the traction light to come on when accelerating on a turn but never a full spin out. I think the car has too much grip to be able to do that.
I've installed LEDs for the whole interior (sans rear view mirror since those seem impossible to disassemble), mirror puddle lights, and replaced my greenish LED parking lights with new brighter whiter ones from AZNOptics. I'm working out a few kinks then I'll get to the photos.

There is a real nice silver one that I see once in a while here in town rolling on Carlssons but I'm unsure of size. I do know they are larger than 20".

As to a hitch, you might want to look at this website.
http://www.pfjones.co.uk/tow-bars/to...s-towbars.html
The Westfalia hitch is hidden from view when the ball is removed. Do not know if it would work with the R63 fascia however.
This is a wonderful thread, one that I have enjoyed perusing! My highest compliments on a top quality build throughout.

If you or Henry want to sell let me know!
Next time you pass threw Bellingham/Blaine let me know!

In regards to "if I had to drive a minivan..." a good friend of mine has an ongoing battle with his wife about the cars she has to drive- nice enough cars but she wants a minivan! So I sent him a link to this thread & also to a R63 AMG which is for sale. I told him it was the best of both worlds, in that she gets her minivan of his choice!

This is definitely the best van out there.
As promised I have a few updates to share with you. The first is a simple and basic mod: wheel spacers. I installed 15mm spacers in the front and 20mm spacers in the rear. That makes my whole set up 21X9" wheels ET60 (before) and now the equivalent of ET45 Front and ET40 Rear.

Since I'm running extended H&R bolts that aren't made with locks, I went with the Eurasia wheel lock that bolts onto the end of the nut:

The bigger update, though, is that I've finally got my carbon fiber diffuser made and installed. This is a project that I've been working on nearly two years to get completed as it seemed impossible to find someone to do it. Well it's finished and mounted on the car:

I have some more carbon fiber exterior parts being custom made as we speak and they'll be on the car within a few weeks.
