I have a soft spot for these cars and yours is truly the ultimate R-class. Amazing job. Question- have you considered putting the new-style Mercedes wing mirrors on? I never got used to the stubby mirrors MB placed on all their cars during that era.
I have thought about doing the facelifted mirrors, but ultimately opted against doing them. (I don't mind the current shape). Instead I went for aftermarket CF mirrors with the arrow LED blinkers added to them like the facelifted type but with the old shape.
I did the facelift mirrors on mine. I realy recomend it though...Looks so much more modern.
I prefer the CF on my old style mirrors since it ties in with my sporty CF theme more. However, I would consider doing the facelifted mirrors if blind spot assist could be retrofitted. Did you add that to your car, Chris? Your car has the power folding function right? Was it a direct bolt on and plug and play connectors?
Finally some more updates! I haven't forgotten about this car at all. In fact the mod bug has hit me again and I've done some more work. I've installed OEM 65 AMG exhaust tips which required quite a bit of custom fabrication to get the tips to join up with the stock outlet from the rear mufflers. Since I had a welder messing around with the exhaust system I also took the plunge and did a resonator delete and I must say it's one of my favorite mods to date. The deep throaty tone of the car is much more audible under load but cruising and at the idle the car sounds the same. It's definitely made the car much more fun to drive now that I get more audible feedback when pressing the gas pedal.
Of course no exhaust mod is worth talking about without some sound clips. The first one is a cold start and driving to redline (after warmup):
Another mod completed but not yet pictured is U80 rear 110V plug retrofit from the facelifted R-Class. Basically it's a house plug 110V in the cargo area so you can plug whatever you want into the car without needing to use an inverter.
I've also got a chance to meet up with a local R63 owner. This Pewter/Black R63 is an original owner car and we both went to the local cars and coffee to display our cars:
Cool that you keep going...I joined your FB Group... Not that many that even care about W251 so it is so inspiring when you post and keeps me going with mine... I have a HUGE update soon on it...
Did you have the stock mufflers cut open, emptied out, and welded back up? And do you have any vids of the exhaust driving by from the outside? I never knew how good even the stock R63 sounds from the outside till I watched my friend drive my car...being inside, so much of the sound gets filtered out... a good, and bad thing!
And seeing the tips next to the car vs. actually installed is a huge difference. They look a lot better settled into place now...

Cut the resonators out and replaced with 3" pipes. Only thing done to mufflers were tips were cut off and 65 tips were welded in place. All muffler internals are original.
No drone and same noise level at idle (to my ears in the driver's seat). But when you get on it and anything 2.5k rpm+ you can hear it. IMO it's the way it should've been stock. You can hear all the crackles and pops... right after I had this done I was driving behind an SLS and it was funny that my car was making more noise than his!

I love this thing. Please put a blower on it and destroy some 500hp domestics hahaha.
Thank you! Maybe I should start a kickstarter to fund my blower install?
Your car is beautiful ! Hope you enjoy it , I had an R350, and the car was amazing I just felt the torque and the high RPM more than any other mercedes I owned! A blower would be crazy
