This is completely nonsensical. The M156 has a very well known head bolt issue. It sounds like he decided to keep driving after a head bolt failed, which led to its demise. I had my head bolts proactively done for $4k. Also, he could have purchased an engine used, there are lots around for well under $10k. Loss of common sense on this one it seems.

2009 ML63 AMG

2009 ML63 with 72k miles, second owner, dealer maintained. Add coolant light came on. Topped off and took to dealer. They quoted $35,000 for a rebuild or $85,000 for a new motor.
