R63 Air Compressor v.LessonLearned
Earlier today I changed out the Air Compressor on my R63. While the process is rather straight forward, I quickly found the root cause of the OEM compressor failing. At the top of the passenger fender is the compressors intake, drier and filter which feeds air to the compressor. After I removed the wheel liner, I found this line to have cracked and degraded, thereby allowing dirty and wet air to enter the compressor. I suspect this was largely due to age. After a quick trip to Auto Zone, a 33” replacement with new clamps is in place.
Lesson learned, check this line! While difficult to get to it may save you the cost of a compressor.
Clearly cracked in the middle and then at the end of the hose.
New hose and compressor installed.
