nearly escaped death

on a highway for no aparent reason my 560SEL started spinning.. the vehicle spinned three times..hit the pavement ..passed over the pavement and ended up on the service lane..this car is my daily driver and is well pampered ..i never expect such horrible betrayal from such well pampered benz.. fortunately no dents on the body but here is the total damage

- all rims and tires shot
- front suspension gone
- oil pan smashed.. oil pump damaged due to smash
- radiator busted
- engine fan went pieces
- all bearing for sure shot and must be replaced

my question..what would have caused the car to do such horrible thing to me

....For no apparent reason???

Your blame seems misplaced. It wasn't the car's fault. You likely ran over something, blew a flat and lost control at a high speed.

You're post connoted this in an unnecessay deragatory fashion. Please provide a further, more descriptive analysis of the event.

For now, I'm glad you're safe and your car is not damaged.

Sorry, if I tend to speak drily as opposed to being a bit more romantic towards the car. I do not believe in a mechanical soul.

if just started accelerating..traffic was good..i was for sure not doin any more than 30mph.. the road was clear.. i suspected one of the rear wheel locked up but that was not the case.. but now i belive something fishy went in the differencial which gave unequal acceleration to both wheels and caused the car to spin like crazy...

anyway..will pull the car on repair ramp tommrow and see whats wrong.

ahh my poor benz!!

Well, at least it's good to know that you are okay without any injury. Take care and drive safely.

Wow I'm glad your ok. It wounds like something major broke. W126's are very easy to control past the limits and give you tons of warning before you overstep them. Something major must have broke becuase at only 30mph you should have been able to regain control.

I was very much saddened by your story, especially after what you just experienced with your '83 500SEL some weeks ago. At least you're fine and that's what's most important. Occupant safety has always been Mercedes-Benz's top priority when engineering their cars, not even luxury! Like everyone else here, I really wonder what happened. Your suspicion that something happened in the differential could be true. Does your 560SEL have a limited slip differential? I know it was standard on all US Spec cars, but I don't know about your [probably Euro Spec] car. But what's strange is that you were able to retain control of your 500SEL at over 100mph when the tire blew and damaged the wheel and the driveshaft, but you lost control of your 560SEL at about 30mph.
