Concurred.

Go for the Koni's.
Koni Specials shock housings are about 97$ for each corner.

If that's too much, KYB has their Gas-A-Just shock housing for 32$ for each front and 31$ for each rear.

Most commonly when people get new shocks OR springs, they get both. Saves money in labor. For springs you can get

Eibach Pro-Kit Spring set - $303
or the
H&R Sport Spring set - $266

Personally I like the Eibach one more, but I use the H&R Sport Spring kit in more cars.

All the items I mentioned should fit a 1990 560SEL.

Bilstein SP (sport), just put a new set on my car and love them. I had them on my old C280 and 190E too. The SP's are also designed for lowered suspension systems so if you put on lowering springs you won't have any problems.

Their really is no reason to replace the springs unless the car is saging or you want to lower it. Replacing springs is a heck of a lot more work. Changing shocks on a W126 is extremly fast and simple.

Bilstein comforts are my favorite. These are not sports cars, I don't want a stiff ride.

They don't make sports for the 126.. And you can use HD's or comforts on lowered cars w/o issue.

tried blisten, tried monroe... must admit blisten are good shock but too stiff for a car designed to be more luxry and less sports

while im concered with improving handling.. im sticking to fine line between comfort and handling.. after all im not gonna use the car on track or something..

monroe reflex felt better.. somewhat the honda accord 2004 - 2005 like ride..soft and smooth at cruising speeds.. stiff and more road holding at acceleration and highway speeds..

tho its well known that monroe's will not last more than two years but hey are also 3 times cheaper than blisten..so if blisten lasts 6 years ..monroe will need replacement three times in the period of 6 years.. but hey u get new looking parts on ur car chasis
