500 sel idle
I have a 1984 500 sel and it idles high every few seconds and goes back to normal and repeats this cycle while at a stop or in park. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this. I have had all the vacum lines replaced thus far without any luck.....thanks for the help.

Great car by the way. We had one of the very first 500 SEL in the US. Loved that car...ROCK solid!

I found a service bulletin that suggests a faulty throttle valve switch as a possible culprit. This switch is used to tell the PCM when the throttle is closed. I've seen this on Cadillacs, but there is really too many different things that could cause idle speed problems for me to guess accurately.
Unless somebody chimes in with a 'They all do that...here's how to fix it' post, my suggestion is to take it to a shop that is skilled in drivability repairs. If your garage is guessing at fixes, find a better shop.
