How to stop Interior squeeks / noises

Hello,

I'm new here, wondering if you guys can help me.

91 560SEL

I notice the interior makes a lot of noises when I go over bumps and cracks in the road, and also when I brake. It seems the door panels are the main problem. When I drive over a bump, the bottom of the door panel comes into contact with the door sill (or scuff plate, the step up cover) and it makes a really bad squeeky noise. After a while, this can get pretty annoying. Does anyone know how to fix this? I removed the door sill to test it out, and the squeeks were gone. Please help..

Thanks

I had the same problem on my 560. I applied Lexol leather conditioner to the sill plates and the noise stopped. I also tried silicone and it was not quite as effective.

This will last for about 3 months and you will have to do it again. I know that it is only temporary but at least it gets rid of the annoying creaking.

Thanks for the replies...

I will buy this Lexor Leather Conditioner as you said.... but I don't understand how a leather conditioning spray can have an effect on a plastic door sill? Does it make it soft or something?

Let me know, THANKS!

It does not make it soft. It lubricates it and from what I could determine it is thicker in consistency and holds onto the surface better tha silicone or WD40.

Okay..

So I should apply the spray to the surface of the door sill?

Should I apply any of it to the bottom of the door panel?

Thanks again..

The sill seems to be the problem. However, I applied it to both surfaces.

I applied sticky felt. I would recommend that over sprays and such, the felt only needs to be reapplied every 2-3 years of daily operation.

Vaseline works like a charm!

I had bad squeaking at the left rear door, where the bottom of the panel contacted the door sill. A bit of vaseline along the bottom works very well to silence that.
