Problem with Interior lights for not turning on 124-126 cars

The interior lights do not turn on when I open the driver's door. All the other doors will turn on the interior lights. I replaced the push pin switch in the door but that did not fix the problem. Any one know where to look or what to check. My car is a 90 300SE, I figure the E and S class of the same vintage would be about the same for this circuit.
